Did you hear? Pantone has selected the 2018 color of the year!

Pantone wants brands, packages, and people to be artistic, imaginative and inventive in 2018 with Ultra-Violet!

Introducing Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year:

Ultra-Violet 18-3838 (2096C)

It’s a blue-based purple, perfect for contemplation, unconventionality, and future discoveries. It points us to a future state somewhere in the cosmos.

The internet is very excited about this year’s Pantone selection!

How to use Ultra Violet in Graphic Design and Packaging

Ultra Violet is the ideal Pantone selection for packaging and only if it fits with your product and brand essence. Here are some examples of how to use purple and Ultra Violet in a package design:

  • In food, purple is often associated with chocolate-based products. Cadbury uses the color purple very well.  https://www.cadbury.co.uk/
  • Is one of your product ingredients purple, such as a purple fruit or vegetable? Well lucky you! Ultra Violet may be the right choice for visual flavor cues or product illustrations on front-of-pack.
  • Are you designing packaging for a premium, exotic or sophisticated look? A backdrop of C2096 in your design may help you STAND OUT, color block your brand at-shelf, and attract the eye of target consumers.

Here are some Pantone guidelines on how to use C2096:

“As packaging design becomes more sophisticated, Ultra Violet offers complexity and nuance that appeals to our desire for originality in all that we touch. Similarly, in graphic design, Ultra Violet resonates with this dynamic medium through its multi-dimensional feeling. Shades of Ultra Violet are increasingly used in packaging and graphic design by forward-looking brands in the CPG, luxury, and beauty worlds as well as by personalities and artists seeking to stand out.”
